I used to live in a super small town in Ohio, Granville. Technically, based on size alone, it wasn't even a town, it was a village. The type of village with one stop light. It wasn't the type of town that you'd think you'd grow up making long lasting memories. But we did, and that's all they are now, distant memories.
Our neighborhood had this amazing bike path just down the road from it. We would take these family bike rides, down the path. The journey was just a few miles end to end, but the path stopped at an ice cream shop, Knuckleheads. We'd grab our ice cream; for me, a soft serve hot fudge sundae with pecans, I can still taste it, and then turn around and head back.
You don't realize when you are living those moments how special that memory will become as you age. Having moved away from Ohio years ago, I can't just hop in my car and go visit that path on any given weekend to relive that experience. I have only the memories I created with my family.
This past month I visited Bowline park with Tatiana and her adorable family. A park that means so much to her and her little ones. The pool they belong to, the paths they walk, and the playgrounds they frequent. Capturing this memory felt special to me. I know as I have gotten older these are the memories I wish I had concrete images and videos to look back on. Those small every day life experiences you live out with your siblings and parents, that you may not be able to visit again in the future.
Below is the video we created, capturing her little ones playing and taking in the park. 2020 has felt pretty on hold, but it has certainly put a lot into perspective. The extra time with our families, creating more memories at home and in our neighborhoods. I hope this family photo and video session inspires you to hold onto to the everyday memories, as just as precious as the big ones.
